Why Are Workers Staying Out of the U.S. Labor Force?

Much of the Great Resignation and Reshuffling are influenced by demographic and psychographic changes to the workforce. The St. Louis Fed’s research into the main causes of workforce shortage can be summarized as:

  1. More people retiring and at disparate ages than traditionally set.
  2. The Forced Work From Home as a part of caring for family. This remained relatively unchanged but still affects women more than men.
  3. Pool of under-un-employed continues to shrink so a true dearth of people in which to pull into the workforce
